Shaker Road Receives Red Kap STEM Grant

Shaker Road Elementary School is once again a recipient of a Red Kap grant from the Exxon/Mobil Education Alliance that will help students to enjoy more access to STEM-related learning opportunities.

The STEM grant was secured with the help of Jon Kaplan, Vice-President of Red-Kap Sales, which operates the Shaker Mobil convenience store at the corner of Albany Shaker Road and Osborne Road in Loudonville. Mr. Kaplan is always looking for ways to help the staff and students at Shaker Road Elementary School.

STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering & Math) Education initiatives provide students with hands-on opportunities to learn in ways that are deeply intertwined with the real world and the future. The ever-increasing influence of technology in the daily lives of all people demands that students grow more fluent with new technologies and develop the skills necessary to develop the next generation of tools. STEM Education is the overarching goal of the Exxon/Mobil Educational Alliance and Shaker Road is grateful for the support.

“Student opportunities to learn more about coding, robotics and math modeling – to name just a few STEM topics – are becoming more prominent at the K-4 level,” said Shaker Road Principal William Dollard. “Thanks to Mr. Kaplan and the folks at Red-Kap, students at Shaker Road will have additional opportunities for STEM-related learning opportunities to complement STEM opportunities provided by the South Colonie Central School District.”
