DEAR Time at Shaker Road #ReadAcrossAmerica

At 10:10 a.m. on March 2, everything stopped at Shaker Road Elementary School. You see that date is Dr. Seuss' birthday (he would be 113 years old now), which was chosen 20 years ago as the day Americans all across the country should commit themselves to reading. We believe that today's readers are tomorrow's leaders!

DEAR is an acronym for Drop Everything And Read. The wonderful silence that fell over the building at 10:10 a.m. (for 10 minutes) provided all of the students and adults at Shaker Road with the opportunity to do some reading. People had fiction and nonfiction, books and magazines...some even read on tablets and iPads. Reading is good for the brain.

So next year, please join us on March 2 to celebrate the amazing life of a great author and spend some time enjoying the work of Dr. Seuss and other writers.
