Shaker Road Elementary School 'Brovember' Beard-Growing Contest Raises $338 To Fight Prostate Cancer
The 30 days of Brovember passed very quickly. With each passing day, the men at Shaker Road Elementary School grew more bristly. Along the way, students and staff and folks from our school community made donations in the form of "votes" for the beard(s) they liked best. We also had fun keeping track of the changes in our looks when compared with famous folks in beards. All in all, it was good fun!
More importantly, those "votes" added up to $237.85 for us to contribute to Us TOO. Additionally, I received a $100 community donation from a kind soul who wishes to remain anonymous so that Shaker Road's total donation to Us TOO added up to $337.85, which is great!
Folks contribute to such causes for different reasons. For many of the students, they really wanted a certain Shaker Road guy's beard to be the winner. For others, they gave because they understood that the donation was going to help others. For our anonymous donor, it was a memorial gift for a family member. All good reasons; all good help.
Mr. Sherwin was the runaway "winner" of the Brovember beard-growing contest with a set of whiskers that brought in $56.87, followed by the $42.47 that Mr. Bissonette's face carpet brought in. The other five participants - Mr. McCulloch, Mr. Moak, Mr. Lachut, Mr. Brown and Mr. Dollard - tallied donations between $21.03 and $38.10, all of which helps Us TOO! Well done, Shaker Road!
