Sixth Grader Writes Award Winning Composition

Shashaank Narayanan, a sixth grader at Sand Creek Middle School, is already achieving state-wide recognition as a young composer. Narayanan was recently honored by the New York State School Music Association (NYSSMA) as a winner of the 2013 NYSSMA 2013 - Call for Compositions. His composition, Ancient Masters, was one of 12 compositions chosen from more than 100 submissions. full story

Sand Creek Say Goodbye to DARE Officer Jensen

After leading more than a generation of South Colonie children down the important path of “Just Saying No To Drugs,” Colonie DARE and School Resource Officer Greg Jensen is stepping down from his school duties. The loveable, familiar face from the Colonie Police Department handed out his final DARE diplomas to Sand Creek Middle School sixth graders on Friday after working with kids for some 15 years in the district. full story

Sand Creek Raises $700 to Fight Breast Cancer

Though the efforts of the Sand Creek Middle School modified track team and the Student Council, the sale of pink shoelaces during October Breast Cancer Awareness Month raised $702 for the Making Strides Against Breast Cancer initiative. full story

Students Raising Money to Fight Breast Cancer

Erin Dunne, Koryanne Whittle and Andrew Tucker were just a few of the Sand Creek Middle School students who assisted with the sale of pink shoelaces to fight breast cancer at the school open house this fall. During October, members of the Sand Creek Modified Track team and Student Council representatives will also be helping to raise money for the Making Strides to end breast cancer walk, on Sunday, October 20. full story

Major Doug Baker, a 9/11 first responder, visited Sand Creek Middle School on the 12th anniversary of the World Trade Center terrorist attacks to talk with students about that tragic day and how Americans responded to the crisis. full story
