Saddlewood Students Ready To Read Themselves 'Silly'
Saddlewood Elementary School children are ready to read themselves "Silly" this fall as the school kicked off its Parents As Reading Partners (PARP) program during an October 14th morning assembly.
Two clown friends, Dilly (aka Principal Marohn) and Dally (aka Mr. Eggleston) love to tell jokes and clown around. However, Dilly suddenly lost his “sillies” and needs help getting them back. The only way to help Dilly find his "sillies” is for the Saddlewood students to read at home daily.
Throughout the coming weeks, the students at Saddlewood will see if their efforts to read at home can help the two clown friends return to their fun-loving ways! PARP encourages children to read at home with their parents, other adults or older siblings. It is designed to encourage children to become lifelong readers.
According to the New York State PTA, the primary objective of the program is to encourage reading at home. Children turn to their parents as role models and are more likely to follow the example of a reading parent. Reading at home further provides a supplement to the excellent reading programs currently used in our nation’s schools. PARP asks parents to encourage their children to read, impressing upon them the fact that reading can be fun as well as informative. In addition, the daily communication shared through PARP will serve to strengthen the family.
