Author and Illustrator Nick Bruel Visits Three Elementary Schools
Cody couldn't wait to leave Nick Bruel's author presentation. It wasn't because Cody was unhappy, it was because, as he told his teacher, "I just want to go write!"
Mr. Bruel, an author and illustrator, visited Roesselville, Shaker Road and Veeder elementary schools this fall. He met with every grade level and, even though he tailored his presentation to each individual age group, he stressed some main points.
He told students that to write stories, you need to read as much as you can. You learn how to be a writer from reading books - both books you like and books you don’t like. He stressed that all students have ideas in their head, they simply need to write them down.
Mr. Bruel told students that the secret to writing stories is to always ask yourself questions. Finally, he advised that writing is challenging and hard work, but don’t give up, because it’s also fun and rewarding.
