Lisha Kill Commemorates September Events

Lisha Kill Middle School commemorated two important September dates – September 11, 2001 and Constitution Day September 17, 1787. The acts of kindness and unselfishness and the meaning/responsibility of citizens in our community set the foundation for the kickoff of the iCARE program at Lisha Kill.

Captain James Grismer, a 20-year veteran of the New York City Fire Department, was a first responder on 9/11/2001 and spoke to the Lisha Kill community about lessons learned on that date and the importance of building strong character in our community. Lisha Kill learned about the several acts of bravery and heroism on that day and his words inspired us to improve our actions.

Captain Grismer’s presentation was followed by a question and answer period from students. Lastly, Lisha Kill staff members gave a firsthand reflection on the events and emotions of 9/11/2001.

In the following months, Lisha Kill will participate in character education activities and develop the iCARE program in our school and greater community.
