Lisha Kill Student Dies While Swimming in Family Pool
South Colonie Schools mourn the death of a 13-year-old Lisha Kill Middle School student who died July 31 while swimming at her family pool on Thoroughbred Lane.
Sierra Berhaupt, who was to enter eighth grade in the fall, was rushed to Albany Medical Center Hospital Sunday after police and EMS workers responded to a 6:53 p.m. call to her home. Colonie Police ruled the death an accidental drowning following an autopsy on Monday. It is believed the young girl may have suffered a medical problem while swimming under water.
She was immediately pulled from the pool, but was having difficulty breathing. She soon lost consciousness and stopped breathing. People were already performing CPR on the girl when emergency crews arrived.

Berhaupt was an honor student, said Lisha Kill Associate Principal William Boardman, a member of the school chorus and graduate of Saddlewood Elementary School. “She had such a vibrant personality and touched a lot of people in many different ways. It certainly is a tragedy and our thoughts and prayers go out to her family.”
