Phase I of the Firebird restoration is now complete. The Auto Club has disassembled the interior, engine, suspension, sub frame and body. The body itself is now mounted on the rotisserie ready for Phase II, which is to remove and replace any rusted metal. This is the safest method, so students aren’t underneath when welding. We are also planning to rebuild the brakes, steering and suspension systems.
It’s time for another year with Auto-Club. Our current project is a 1969 Pontiac Firebird. Our new officers are: President: Sean Evers, Vice President: Zack Kalinowski, Secretary: Stephany Gilbert, Treasurer: Alex Monahan and Historian: Brian Gaitan. Unfortunately, due to a lack of community involvement, Advisor David Norkun is now the sponsor for this major restoration project.
This
year, our group is much more committed to our work than in
previous gatherings. We hope to get the metal fabrication and
welding as near to completion as we can by the end of this
school year. At this time, the frame of the vehicle is stripped,
primed and painted chassis black. Currently we are replacing
rear wheel housings, trunk floor, and rear quarter panels with
NOS sheet metal. We will also replace the lower door skins and
rocker panels. In addition we are fabricating metal and
addressing other body work.
This year we have many more members than the previous years in Auto club. Hopefully the large member count we have will make it easier to complete our goal. We’re really hoping for a good year and to get more accomplished than in previous years.
If you decide to join Auto Club please give us your full dedication. With more people we can get more done. Thank you and hopefully we’ll be seeing you in Auto Club. New members are always welcome.
