Sailor Joins Brother as Navy Aviator; Gordons Both CCHS Grads and Fly Sub Chasers

Navy Lt. j.g. Evan Gordon of Colonie received his Gold Aviator Wing and was officially designated as a naval aviator during a ceremony at the Naval Air Station Corpus Christi, Miss.

His parents, Greg and Sue Gordon of Colonie, pinned the Aviator Gold Wing on their son. They also pinned a Gold Aviator Wing on their other son, Navy Lt. Shawn Gordon, in 2012.

Evan also was recognized for making the Commodore's List with Distinction for his grades and training performance at the Training Air Wing Four school. He received the certificate for "having displayed flight and academic excellence during the advanced phase of naval flight training."

The Gordon brothers now have common primary missions, although they are stationed at different bases and fly different aircraft. They both pilot sub chaser aircraft. Shawn flies a P3C Orion out of a base in Italy. Evan flies a P8A Poseidon 737 Boeing jet out of Jacksonville, Fla.

They graduated from Colonie Central High School, Shawn in 2006 and Evan in 2009. Shawn was commissioned as an ensign upon graduation with a bachelor of science in history from the Naval Academy at Annapolis, Md., in 2010. Evan was commissioned upon graduation from the academy with a bachelor of science in computer science in 2013.

Shawn completed deployments to Djibouti and Iceland. The naval aviators are the grandsons of Orin and Betsy Sussman of Colonie.
