CCHS iCARE Kicks Off Military Help Campaign

The Colonie Central High School iCARE program held an assembly today to kick off its 2015-16 campaign to help military personnel, veterans and their families.

Guest speakers included Karen Ferris-Fernside, Donna Vickery and Susan Lake of the Blue Star Mothers and Dominick Sonodrini of the Soldier On organization. Members of both organizations highlighted what they do to support our active military and veterans. They explained various fundraising events they support, the people they are able to service and the capacities by which they provide those services: food, shelter, clothing, mental health resources, job training and employment.

Both organization members expressed their excitement in partnering with iCARE throughout the district and are thankful for the support CCHS is offering this year. The iCARE team also revealed today a few upcoming initiatives students will undertaking this year to help out.

The most exciting initiative on tap this year will be the first annual Rugged Raider Patriot Challenge. This is a team obstacle course event to be hosted at the high school on October 17. Participants will form five-to-seven member teams for the challenge which will prove to be full-fledged patriotic.
