poster contest winnerCCHS Senior Earns AAA Traffic Safety Poster Contest Award

Colonie Central High School senior, Arron Muia, has won a Merit Award in the 2016 American Automobile Association’s (AAA) National Traffic Safety Poster Contest. This is accompanied with a $50 gift card.

This is the fifth year that the contest, sponsored by the AAA Hudson Valley chapter, was open to electronically created poster designs. This new medium prompted students in David Norkun’s CCHS Visual Communication Tools class to incorporate their lessons into a poster design for the contest.

The CCHS Technology Department uses Adobe Creative Suite (CS6) in the class. Muia used Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator to create his poster.

This year’s theme focused on safe teen driving. Muia’s design (shown in the photo) featured “Alcohol Awareness.” His poster portrays what happens when you drive impaired or intoxicated, his message Don’t Drink and Drive!

“I encourage my students to flex their creative muscle in their designs,” Norkun said, “and Aaron's poster certainly accomplished that.”

AAA's annual National Traffic Safety Poster Contest brings out the creativity in students from kindergarten through grade 12, as they create posters that illustrate traffic safety slogans. Entries were screened locally and judged nationally for recognition awards and college funds.
