South Colonie Board of Education

 

The nine-member South Colonie Board of Education meets regularly on the first and third Tuesday of each month. Exceptions are made to avoid conflicts with religious holy days, state and national conferences or extended recess periods.

The meetings begin with a closed Executive Session at 7 p.m. followed by an open meeting beginning at 7:30 p.m. in the District Office Board Room, 102 Loralee Drive, Albany, New York 12205.

Meetings may also be held at the various school buildings and in those cases, advance notice of the meeting is given on this web site. The Board of Education holds special meetings as needed.

Board of Education members are elected to five-year terms. Elections are held each year on the third Tuesday in May. Polls are open 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. at the district's five elementary schools. There is no voting at the middle schools or high school.

Standard Work Day and Reporting Resolution 2011-2012 School Year

Be it resolves that the South Colonie Central School District hereby establishes the following standard work force days for elected and appointed officials and will report the following days worked to the New York State and Local Employees Retirement System based on the record of activities maintained and submitted by these officials to the clerk of the Board of Education. view the resolution (pdf)

The South Colonie Board of Education honored three Town of Colonie employees in November for their longtime service, support and dedication as members of the district's Safe School Committee. Board of Education Hosts District Tenure Reception

The South Colonie Board of Education honored 21 of the district’s finest administrators, teachers, teaching assistants, counselors and media specialists in September for their recent tenure appointments. A reception was held at the South Colonie District Office where Board President Leonard Motto joined Superintendent Jonathan Buhner and other board members and administrators in presenting the honorees with certificates for this accomplishment. Board of Education Adopts New Tax Rates

The South Colonie Board of Education adopted new district property tax rates for the 2011-12 school year at its meeting Tuesday night. The new rates are $24.66 per $1,000 assessed value for South Colonie home and business owners, $19.31 per $1,000 in Guilderland, and $16.65 per $1,000 in Niskayuna. Jason SemoBoard of Education Appoints Jason Semo New Supervisor of Physical Education & Athletics

Jason Semo is the new South Colonie Supervisor of Physical Education, Athletics and Intramurals effective August 15th. He was appointed by the Board of Education Tuesday night and replaces David Foust, who retired on June 30. full story

 

Board of Education Names Motto New President, Ryan Vice President

The South Colonie Board of Education voted on Tuesday, July 12, to name Leonard Motto as the new board President for the 2011-2012 school year. James (Tim) Ryan was named Vice President. Motto takes over in that role for Brian Casey, who has served as board President for the past two years. Motto was Vice President for the past two years.
