General Orchestra Instruction by Grade Level
South Colonie offers large group instrumental music instruction on string instruments at the elementary, middle and high school levels.
Each elementary school has a Grade 4 Orchestra that meets once a week for 30 minutes and performs three concerts a year. Group lessons are given once a week for 30 minutes.
The middle schools offer Grade 5 Orchestra, Grade 6 Orchestra and Grade 7/8 Orchestra (meets in two sections) The Orchestras meet every other day for 40 minutes. The Grades 5 and 6 Orchestras perform two or three concerts a year. The Grades 7 and 8 Orchestras perform three concerts a year. Group instrumental lessons are also offered.
The high school offers Concert Orchestra (9-10) and Symphonic Orchestra (11-12) which meets daily for 40 minutes and perform four concerts a year. Small group or private lessons are also offered - one 20-minute lesson per six-day rotation.
