General Music Instruction by Grade Level
South Colonie offers large group instruction of music fundamentals and music awareness and appreciation at the elementary, middle and high school levels.
Classes meet once a week for 40 minutes. Special performances are held throughout the school year (assemblies).
Classes for students in grades 5-6 meet two times per six-day cycle for one semester. Each class is 40 minutes. Grade 7 classes meet every other day for 40 minutes. Only students who are not enrolled in a performing group receive grade 7 general music instruction. There is no General Music instruction for grade 8 students.
The high school offers Music Theory I (elective) for 1 credit and Music Theory II/Music Appreciation (elective) for 1 credit and HVCC credit. Classes meet daily for 40 minutes.
