Sixteen Colonie High School music students were selected to perform at the New York State School Music Association (NYSSMA) Area All-State Music Festival in November at Saratoga Springs High School. full story

check presentationBikers Present Check to SCDFS for Seyboth Tirador Music Scholarship

Hundreds of bikers took to the roads in August to raise money for the South Colonie Music Department in honor of the late Amy Seyboth Tirador, a Colonie graduate who died in November, 2009, from non-combat-related injuries received while serving in Iraq. While in school, Amy was actively involved in music. Last May, Amy was the first inductee into the new military wing of the Colonie Central High School Hall of Fame. The bikers, members of the Electrical Workers Local Union 236 Motorcycle Club, presented South Colonie's Dollars for Scholars chapter a check for $10,000 in November to create a music scholarship in Amy's name. CCHS Hosts Faculty Music Recital

The South Colonie Music Department held its Faculty Music Recital on November 8 at CCHS. Proceeds benefited the Music Department Scholarship Fund. Twenty-one music teachers from across the district presented an hour-long instrumental and vocal recital featuring music of all genres. This year’s recital also featured exceptional students performing alongside their teachers.

string jamboree photoDistrict Hosts Strings Jamboree

The South Colonie Music Department presented a Strings Jamboree in April. Nearly 700 orchestra students from all eight South Colonie schools performed in this multi-grade concert. A fourth grade orchestra of nearly 200 students kicked off the program. Also performing was a fifth grade orchestra, sixth grade orchestra, combined seventh and eighth grade orchestra, combined ninth and 10th grade orchestra, and a combined 11th and 12th grade orchestra. As a finale to the program, all students performed the theme to Beethoven's 9th Symphony, the Ode to Joy.

The South Colonie Music Department presented a Band Festival at Colonie Central High School in March.

The concert included performances by the combined fifth grade bands from Sand Creek and Lisha Kill Middle Schools, the combined eighth grade bands from the middle schools, and the CCHS Wind Ensemble. The groups came together for a grand finale and performed “Bugler’s Dream,” theme from the Winter Olympics. 300 students participated.

The purpose of this multi-level concert was to celebrate the many successes of the South Colonie band program. The Band Festival afforded middle school students and their parents the opportunity to observe the progression of learning that occurs as students mature musically. It also provided the high school students and their parents with many musical memories of their past musical experiences.
